Senior Pictures in Detroit | Parker’s Alley, Bookstore and DIA
POV:
My senior client and her mom meet with me for a consultation at my studio to plan her senior photos. Here’s how the conversation went…
Senior: “I want different senior pictures; something unique. Maybe a bookstore. How about Barnes and Noble?"
Me: “I’ve got an even better option for you than that! I’m thinking more vintage, tons of character and gorgeous lighting.
Does that sound like something that fits your style? And bonus, it’s in Detroit so it easily aligns with the other locations you’re interested in for your senior photo session.”
Senior: “Yes, that’s perfect! Let’s do it.”
THE RESULT:
When I say Carrington nailed her photos at the bookstore, I mean she NAILED IT. I’m literally in love with her photos (so, so many good ones - too many to share!) but I mostly love that her vision was brought to life.
After the bookstore, we ventured further into Detroit to get some of her most-wanted locations.
Next up was the infamous alley! We did a quick outfit change in my portable pop-up tent, and got gorgeous photographs. The alley gives such a hip, yet timeless vibe to the photos and seniors can dress it up or dress it down with their attire. I love that Carrington brought along sneakers with this outfit; after all, all the kids are doing it these days!
One of the big requests I get when we do city senior pictures is to include a “street walking” photo. While they can get tricky depending on how heavy traffic is, I also LOVE these photos. It gives New York City vibes in our glown-up Detroit city! This portrait of Carrington screams city girl, and I’m here for it (fellow city girl, here!).
Outfit change #3, coming at you! Typically, I recommend to my senior clients to go with three outfits - a dress (or for the guys, something a little dressy), something that is “you”, and something in-the-middle casual. Carrington’s dress was perfect for her Spring session; feminine with the ruffles, classy and a beautiful yellow tone.
This last location was at the Detroit Institute of Arts, as it is such a popular location for senior photos these days and I certainly understand why. The typically photos you see taking at the Detroit Institute of Arts are on the marble steps, and we definitely DID get those photos. We did an impromptu walk around the area and I fell in love with the below spot with the cherry blossoms in full bloom and the sun showing off with golden hour light.
Mom had a special request to let Carrington’s younger brother join in for a few photos, so of course I said yes. His yellow suit matched her dress perfectly, and I always like to capture some fun family dynamics.
Here’s what Carrington’s mom had to say about the senior experience…
“My daughter had her senior photos with Chelsie, and it was a wonderful experience. Hands down, Chelsie is a talented photographer and she truly understands customer service. From the first call with Chelsie to the moment she handed us the completed pictures, it was a pleasant experience. I will never forget when Chelsie mentioned that she had a granola bar and water in her bag for my daughter during the shoot, just incase she needed it. Chelsie is amazing! She has a great eye for the photos and we loved the results!!! I will be back to Chelsie for my headshots and my son's senior photos! 10 stars to you Chelsie! You are talented and you know how to make your clients feel great in the process. Thank you for an unforgettable experience during a very important time in my daughters life!”
What an incredible session, with even more stunning portraits of Carrington. A big THANK YOU for trusting me to photograph this major milestone in your life! Congratulations to the entire class of 2024, now go chase your dreams!
xo,
Chelsie
