Shelby Township, Michigan Newborn Baby Boy Photoshoot | Oliver
One of my favorite questions people ask me as a Detroit Newborn Photographer is “What do you do if the baby won’t sleep?”
My answer? Work with baby awake! If baby is awake, they likely will only be awake for 30 - 40 minutes maximum before they dose off for a nap (and that would be a long awake period for them). FUN FACT: Two week old babies sleep 16 hours over a 24 hour time period.
Sometimes when the newborn baby is awake, I’ll swaddle the baby so we still get relaxed poses (rather than arms flaring all over). Other times, the baby is awake and incredibly relaxed and I can still easily pose them, and even catch some of their little newborn expressions they make, and some eye contact.
Let me give you some examples! Meet Oliver.
Oliver slept for the majority of his session, with maybe two short times he was awake. The first time, I swaddled him up (like the first photo below) to help him get relaxed and sleepy. The other time, he was awake and very calm. For this we got several newborn expressions and eye contact and Mom and Dad absolutely LOVED all of those photos!
Awake, relaxed and EXPRESSIONS!
A HUGE shout out and thank you to both Oliver’s parents, as they serve in the Army. We wanted to capture and honor that in their son’s photo, and I was elated to do so!
